Deepavali

Deepavali (Diwali) marks the return of Lord Rama to Ayodhya after 14 years of exile and the victory of light over darkness. In Telugu households, the day is dedicated to Lakshmi Kubera Puja for wealth, prosperity, and the light of dharma.

Step by Step

How to perform the ritual

Clean the home thoroughly on Naraka Chaturdashi (day before). Rangoli at the entrance.

Bathe before dawn with sesame oil (abhyanga snanam). Wear new clothes.

Place a silver kalash with rice + coin on a platform facing east.

Light the panchmukhi diya with pure A2 cow ghee, keep it burning through the puja.

Offer flowers, akshata, sandalwood paste, kumkum, and 108 tulsi/lotus to Lakshmi.

Chant Sri Sukta, offer naivedyam (kheer, sweets), perform aarti with camphor.

At sunset, light rows of diyas around the home — the more the brighter the future.
