Makara Sankranti
Sankranti celebrates the Sun's transition into Capricorn and marks the harvest season. Telugu families gather across three days — Bhogi, Sankranti, Kanuma — with muggu (rangoli), sesame-jaggery treats, and Surya puja.

Step by Step
How to perform the ritual

On Bhogi (day 1), light a bonfire with old items — release the past.

Draw a large muggu with rice flour and place gobbemma at the center.

On Sankranti morning, bathe early, perform Surya Namaskaram facing sunrise.

Offer haldi-kumkum to elders and married women.
- 5
Prepare sesame-jaggery laddus and share with neighbours.

Perform pitru tarpanam (ancestor libation) with sesame seeds and water.

On Kanuma (day 3), honour cattle — the source of ghee, milk and life.
